Flat Roofing in York
Rear kitchen extensions behind terraces in Fishergate and South Bank, garages across Acomb and Woodthorpe, dormers on family homes in Copmanthorpe — York keeps a surprising number of flat roofs working hard. When ageing felt blisters and ponds, we re-cover in GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber for a far longer service life, or fresh torch-on felt where that suits the structure. Falls, outlets and upstands are detailed so water actually leaves the roof, even under autumn leaf-fall from the city's mature street trees.

Flat Roofing in York: local factors
Drainage decides a flat roof. Where a property sits on flood-plain ground — common around the city — the water table can be high and a soakaway empties slowly, so it is worth establishing where an outlet discharges before the covering is chosen.
What's included in our flat roofing service
- New flat-roof installation on extensions, garages and dormers
- Stripping and replacing failed or leaking flat roofs
- Correcting falls and drainage so water cannot pond
- Insulation upgrades to meet current Building Regulations
- Trims, edges and outlets finished neatly
A garage or small extension in torch-on felt commonly ranges £895–£1,500; longer-life GRP or EPDM systems £1,200–£3,500+ depending on size and insulation. Free fixed quote. See our full price guide.
In York we stripped a hipped roof whose original plain tiles were badly spalled and re-covered it in Russell Bute 3 — an interlocking concrete tile made to look like traditional small plain tiles — over new breathable membrane and treated battens, finished with a dry hip and dry ridge system and a dry valley, so there is no mortar on the roofline to crack or wash out.
When to call us in York
- Pooling water that sits for days after rain
- Cracks, blisters or splits in the membrane
- Leaks into the rooms or garage below
- A felt roof more than 10–15 years old
