Twinplas Guttering across Yorkshire

Twinplas is a twin-wall PVC box gutter made specifically to replace the timber trough gutters found on Victorian and Edwardian terraces and barn conversions. We supply and fit it across Yorkshire — Leeds, York, Sheffield, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax, Doncaster, Harrogate, Hull and Scarborough as well as Beverley and the East Riding — and no job is too small, from one short run to a whole terrace. In September 2026 we replaced the rotten timber trough across two terraced houses near Queensgate, Beverley, with a 9-metre run of Twinplas, renewing the corbels that carry it first so the new gutter could be set to the correct falls. A timber trough sits at the top of the wall with no fascia behind it, so ordinary plastic guttering usually will not go where it was; Twinplas is the same shape and size as the trough, drops into the same position without altering the roof edge, cannot rot and never needs painting. Surveys and written quotes are free, and every run is fitted by our own directly employed team. The same free survey and directly employed team cover the whole of Yorkshire, including York, Leeds, Sheffield, Harrogate, Hull and the East Riding.

Replacing a timber trough with Twinplas costs around £1,000 per side of a terraced house — front or back — supplied and fitted. It costs more per metre than standard uPVC guttering but avoids the joinery and lining a new timber trough needs. Corbel or bracket replacement and new downpipes are priced on top, and every job is quoted fixed in writing after a free survey. See our full price guide.

What's included

  • Twinplas twin-wall PVC box gutter in 3 m, 5 m and 6 m lengths, under 3 kg a metre
  • Removal of the rotten timber trough and repair or renewal of the corbels, brackets and timber behind it
  • Sleeve connectors with factory-fitted rubber gasket seals at every joint, plus matching outlets and mitred corners
  • Correct falls set along the whole run so water reaches the outlet instead of sitting in the gutter
  • New downpipes, swan necks and hopper heads where the old ones have failed
  • Water test through to the downpipes and handover photographs on every job

Signs you may need Twinplas box guttering

Spotting these early usually means a smaller, cheaper job. If any sound familiar, it's worth getting the roof looked at.

  • Your terrace has a wooden box gutter at the top of the wall rather than plastic guttering on a fascia
  • Water drips or pours from the joints or underside of the trough when it rains
  • Green or dark staining runs down the brickwork below the gutter line
  • Damp is showing at the top of a bedroom wall or ceiling just inside the eaves
  • The trough is sagging, twisting or pulling away from the wall, or the timber is soft and split
  • A previous repair with sealant or a plastic liner has not held

Materials & options

Twinplas

The practical long-term answer on most unlisted terraces: the traditional box-gutter line from the street, with no rot and no repainting. Long lengths mean fewer joints across a terrace frontage, and fewer joints means fewer places to leak.

Timber trough, like-for-like

Where a listing or a conservation condition requires the original material, we repair a sound trough or replace it in new timber, lined so water never sits on bare wood. Our cast iron and heritage guttering page covers this in more detail.

Cast iron, cast aluminium or lead

On grander period houses the right replacement may be a moulded cast iron or cast aluminium profile, or a lead-lined gutter. We fit all of them and will tell you honestly which suits the house.

How it works

A straightforward, no-pressure process from first call to finished job.

  1. SurveyWe inspect the trough, its corbels or brackets and the wall and roof edge behind it, measure the falls and outlet positions, and check whether any listing or conservation condition applies.
  2. Fixed written quoteOne clear figure covering the Twinplas, any timber or masonry repair behind the gutter, and downpipes if they are needed.
  3. InstallationThe failed trough comes out, the supports are repaired or renewed, and the Twinplas is set to proper falls and sealed at every joint, with new outlets and downpipes where needed.
  4. Test and handoverEvery run is water-tested through to the downpipes and photographed at handover.

Timber trough replaced with Twinplas, Queensgate — Beverley

Timber trough replaced with Twinplas, Queensgate

Beverley

Two terraced houses near Queensgate shared a timber trough gutter that had rotted through. We fitted new timber corbels to carry it, then a 9-metre run of Twinplas box gutter set to the correct falls — the traditional box-gutter line from the street, with nothing left to rot or repaint — and finished the job in a day. Both owners left five-star Google reviews: “Leonard did an excellent job replacing our wooden gutters with plastic ones which look in keeping”, and “a sympathetic PVC version that is in keeping with the area and newly fitted wooden corbels. It was obvious that Leonard understood his craft and the nuances of older homes.”

Twinplas Guttering — frequently asked questions

What is Twinplas guttering?

Twinplas is a twin-wall PVC box gutter made specifically to replace the timber trough gutters on Victorian and Edwardian terraces and barn conversions. It is the same shape and size as a wooden trough, so it sits in the same position at the top of the wall, but it cannot rot and never needs painting. It comes in 3, 5 and 6 metre lengths, weighs under 3 kg a metre, and is joined with sleeve connectors that carry factory-fitted rubber gasket seals.

Do you fit Twinplas guttering in Leeds?

Yes. Leeds has a great deal of Twinplas and timber trough guttering on its older terraced streets, and we fit and replace it right across the city, including Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Armley, Beeston and Horsforth. There is no minimum job size, from a single leaking run to a whole terrace, and the survey and written quote are free.

Do you fit Twinplas guttering in Beverley?

Yes. Armour Shield Roofing Services fits Twinplas guttering across Beverley (HU17), including Molescroft, Tickton and Walkington. In September 2026 we replaced the timber trough across two terraced houses near Queensgate with a 9-metre run of Twinplas, replacing the corbels beneath it first. The survey and written quote are free, and the work is done by our own directly employed team.

Do you fit Twinplas guttering in York?

Yes. We fit Twinplas guttering across York, where the Victorian terraces around Fishergate, South Bank and Heworth often still carry their original timber trough gutters. Within the city’s conservation areas we check what applies to your property first, and fit timber, cast iron, cast aluminium or lead where the original material has to be kept.

Do you fit Twinplas guttering in Sheffield?

Yes. We travel to Sheffield for Twinplas work of any size, including Crookes, Walkley, Nether Edge, Hillsborough and Sharrow. We survey the old trough and the corbels or brackets that carry it, then give you a fixed written quote before any work starts.

Which parts of Yorkshire do you cover for Twinplas, and is there a minimum job size?

We fit Twinplas anywhere in Yorkshire, including Leeds, York, Sheffield, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax, Doncaster, Harrogate, Hull, Scarborough, Beverley and the East Riding. There is no minimum job size: we will replace one short run, a single house or a whole terrace, and the survey and written quote are free wherever you are.

Can a timber trough gutter be replaced with ordinary plastic guttering?

Usually not. Ordinary half-round or square uPVC guttering hangs from a fascia board on clips, and a terrace built with a timber trough normally has no fascia — the trough rests at the top of the wall on corbels or brackets. Twinplas is a box profile made to go where the trough was, so the roof edge does not have to be altered.

Should I repair my timber trough or replace it with Twinplas?

If the timber is still sound, a trough can be repaired and relined. If it is soft, sagging or leaking along its length, replacement is the better money. A new timber trough keeps the original material, which a listing may require; Twinplas gives the same look from the street with no rot and no painting.

Does Twinplas need any maintenance?

Very little. It is PVC, so there is nothing to rot, rust or repaint. Like any gutter it should be cleared of leaves and moss once or twice a year so the outlets and downpipes stay open.

Do I need permission to fit Twinplas in a conservation area?

On an ordinary house, no. On a listed building, changing the gutter material needs listed building consent, and in a conservation area an Article 4 direction can restrict changes to the front of a house. Much of central Beverley and York is covered by conservation areas, so we check what applies before you commit, and fit timber, cast iron, cast aluminium or lead where the original material has to stay.

How much does Twinplas guttering cost?

As a guide, replacing a timber trough with Twinplas costs around £1,000 per side of a terraced house — front or back — supplied and fitted, including removing the old trough. Replacing the corbels or brackets beneath it, or renewing downpipes, adds to that, and we price the whole job fixed in writing after a free survey.

Is Twinplas guaranteed?

Our workmanship on every Twinplas installation is covered by our written guarantee, and we carry £5 million public liability insurance. The gutter itself is PVC with nothing to rot or rust, so there is no repainting cycle to keep up.
