Chimney Repairs & Repointing in East Yorkshire

Chimneys are one of the most common sources of roof leaks because they sit proud of the roof and take the full force of the weather. We repair and repoint chimney brickwork, renew the flaunching and pots, and replace the lead flashing where the chimney meets the roof — the joint that most often lets water in.

Chimney repointing and flashing repairs commonly range £400–£1,500 depending on access and scope. Full rebuilds are quoted individually. Free fixed quote.

What's included

  • Repointing weathered or crumbling chimney brickwork
  • Renewing flaunching (the mortar around the pots)
  • Replacing cracked or slipped lead flashing
  • Fitting or replacing chimney pots and cowls
  • Waterproofing and, where wanted, full removal and capping

Signs you may need chimney repairs and repointing

Spotting these early usually means a smaller, cheaper job. If any sound familiar, it's worth getting the roof looked at.

  • Damp on the chimney breast inside the house
  • Crumbling mortar or loose bricks on the stack
  • Cracked mortar (flaunching) around the pots
  • Staining on the roof below the chimney
  • A leaning or visibly unstable stack

Chimney Repairs & Repointing — frequently asked questions

Why is my chimney leaking?

The most common cause is failed lead flashing at the base of the stack, followed by cracked flaunching around the pots and porous, unpointed brickwork. We find which it is rather than guessing.

Should I repair or remove an unused chimney?

If the stack is sound, repointing and re-flashing keeps it watertight and preserves the look. If it is unstable or you want to simplify the roof, we can remove it and cap the roof neatly. We will advise on cost and impact.

What is flaunching?

Flaunching is the sloped mortar bed that holds the chimney pots in place and sheds water off the top of the stack. When it cracks, water gets in, so renewing it is a common part of chimney maintenance.
