Lead Work & Flashing in Selby
There's plenty of traditional lead around Selby — valleys and flashings on the Abbey-side terraces, bay-window roofs along the older streets — and much of it is reaching the end of a long life. We renew it in the correct code lead for each position, hand-dressed and welted so it can expand and contract through the seasons without splitting. We take on leadwork throughout YO8 and further afield in Sherburn-in-Elmet and Tadcaster.

Lead Work in Selby: local factors
Older coverings here — pantile bedded in mortar, slate nailed to battens — went on without a membrane, which leaves the lead at every chimney, abutment and valley working alone, nothing below it to catch a drip. Where lead cannot expand and contract freely it tends to crack, which is why bays are kept to a size that allows for that movement at the joints, and dressed in whichever code suits that part of the roof.
